CAFÉ-BAR 8

The store is housed in a building of 1969, in the historic centre of Komotini, crammed into the anarchic construction of that time. The only side of the store is in a gallery, where it is the entrance of the building to the upper floors. Space, abandoned for years, almost deserted, still had marks from its previous uses. Our aim was to keep the space as intact as possible, to reveal the frame of the building and to keep the wounds of time visible. The additional constructions aimed to change of use of the space. So, they had to cooperate with the absolute and solid elements of the pre-existing condition. The materials used are known: concrete, metal, wood. All the inner constructions, tables, chairs, bar and wooden upholstery are made by hand, inside the store itself. It is a place that despite the hardness of its materials refuses to be distant and cold. Its characteristic elements are the concrete bar on two levels to serve standing and sitting, the hall with the loft and the antique piano ready to welcome any mood. In the background, there is a patio with two large tables and plenty of books to read.
